How these scores are calculated

Every score on this page comes from a live check, not a formula pulled from thin air — the same signals AI engines actually weigh when deciding who to recommend.

  • ChatGPT citation testing — real prompts ("best HVAC company in Tampa?") run against ChatGPT, counting how often and how specifically each business gets named.
  • Brand entity & schema markup — whether a business's site declares itself clearly to machines via LocalBusiness schema and structured data, or leaves AI engines guessing.
  • Backlink authority — domain authority as a proxy for the trust signal AI models lean on when choosing which sources to cite.
  • AI crawler access — whether bot protection, JavaScript walls, or blocked crawlers are quietly preventing AI engines from ever reading the site (as seen with REM Air Conditioning's partial scan).
Methodology

Every score comes from a live scan. Nothing here is invented.

Each business on this index gets tested against the actual signals AI engines use to decide who to recommend — not a guess, not a formula pulled from thin air.

01

ChatGPT citation testing

We query ChatGPT with real, natural questions a customer would ask ("best HVAC company in Tampa?") and record whether — and how often — each business gets named.

02

AI Overview, Perplexity & Gemini visibility

We estimate visibility across Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, and Gemini using live citation and mention checks — the same engines increasingly replacing a first Google search.

03

Backlink & domain authority

AI engines lean heavily on sites with real link equity. We measure domain authority as a proxy for how "trustworthy" a business's web presence looks to a language model.

04

Schema & structured data signals

We check whether a business's site uses proper LocalBusiness schema, entity markup, and clean crawlable content — or whether bot protection and thin markup are quietly locking AI crawlers out.
